Diego Ferri is a musician, sound engineer, and producer based in Berlin. He works across experimental and electronic music - recording, mixing, performing live - and also designing, building and programming software and hardware instruments when standard tools can't get there.

He trained as a recording engineer at Fonoprint in Bologna and taught sound design courses at Percorsi Audio, one of Italy's leading Avid Learning Partners. Since moving to Berlin in 2009 he has toured Europe, Asia, and the US as a performing musician and FOH engineer. He works throughout the city's experimental scene, producing for fellow artists, performing solo and in ensembles, and supervising technical production for events and festivals.

Software instruments
Guitar engine CRYPT / TOWER / VEIL

SuperCollider processing engine for electric guitar. Three parallel processing layers: CRYPT (tape compression, digital delay), TOWER (distortion, octaver), VEIL (granular processor) - each independently routable. MIDI-mapped for live performance via TouchOSC and MIDI controller.

Granular reverb SCHAL

Live granular/reverb instrument. JPverb-based FDN architecture with three record modes - gate, manual, continuous. Mapped to a Korg nanoKontrol 2 and used as outboard reverb at FOH consoles.

Mono performance synthesizer ROTA

Monophonic performance synthesizer. Four voices with twelve mixing algorithms, including XOR, AND, and OR boolean modes, driven by an N-event additive looper that controls the voice gates directly.

Runs headless on a Raspberry Pi 5, with dual mono output or on a Macbook M1 with first-order Ambisonics output (FOA / B-format).

Four channels encoding a full 3D sound field, decoded live to binaural or loudspeaker rigs via SuperCollider's ATK, so the instrument can be spatialised and moved around a room as part of the performance itself.

Generative sequencer IRAMA ENGINE

Zero-sum shared resource sequencer rooted in Javanese gamelan irama theory and krautrock. Speed and volume share a fixed budget across tracks. FREE (probabilistic) and LOCK (Euclidean) modes per track.

Additive sequencer ADDSEQ

Sequencer prototype where time is constructed by summing absolute event durations. Inspired by Turkish aksak rhythms, early Moog sequencers and coding. Fixed pitches or microtonal, Hz-based pitch lists can be linked to each event. Supports additive and multiplicative modifiers.

Installation MUSIKTRUHE / SOL

Generative sound installation running day and night inside a vintage German music cabinet. Solar elevation and live temperature data drive FM synthesis based on 10 composed chord progressions that follow the seasons. Four temperature bands map to distinct timbral registers. Fully autonomous - no external control.

Live scoring system SCORE CONTROL

Node.js application for conducting improvised film soundtracks with large ensembles. Musicians see the film or a graphic score on their own screens plus real-time cues pushed by the conductor. Runs over a dedicated Raspberry Pi OSC access point - no internet required, works in any venue.

Mobile recording K24

A 24-channel mobile recording system built to move anywhere with a power outlet. Good-quality preamps and converters throughout - API, AML, Hairball, Antelope, Focusrite. The system operates silently to enable location recording.

Hardware sequencer IRAMA MACHINE

Physical implementation of the IRAMA ENGINE concept. Teensy 4.0 with OLED display, encoders, and button matrix. MIDI out, Euclidean and probabilistic per-track modes. Second hardware version in development: ratcheting, melodic channel, proper enclosure.

Utilities TRS MIDI merger & tools

Arduino Nano-based TRS MIDI merger built on perfboard using 6N137 optocouplers. Part of an ongoing practice of building small utilities - interfaces, adapters, and signal routing tools - for studio and live contexts where commercial solutions don't fit.
